EarlyCDT®-Breast Cancer Benefits

Who Benefits From EarlyCDT®?

Because their breast tissue is commonly less dense, women over age 55 are better candidates for mammography alone, although they, too, might benefit from EarlyCDT®. Mammography is less sensitive for women under age 55 whose breast tissue is often more dense, so they are most in need of a supplemental test, especially if they exhibit risk factors for breast cancer. However, it should be noted that 55 is not a hard and fast cutoff age.

The Gail model3 is one of several established methods for estimating your five–year and lifetime risk of developing breast cancer. The model assigns you a number, called the Gail score, based on these risk factors:

  • Chronological age and race
  • Age at first menstruation
  • Age at first live birth
  • Number of first–degree relatives (mother, sister, daughter) who develop breast cancer
  • Number of breast biopsies
  • Incidence of atypical hyperplasia (a possible cancer precursor) on biopsy
