EarlyCDT Breast Cancer Benefits

Who Benefits From EarlyCDT?

Because their breast tissue is commonly less dense, women over age 55 are better candidates for mammography alone, although they, too, might benefit from EarlyCDT. Mammography is less sensitive for women under age 55 whose breast tissue is often more dense, so they are most in need of a supplemental test, especially if they exhibit risk factors for breast cancer. However, it should be noted that 55 is not a hard and fast cutoff age.

The Gail model3 is one of several established methods for estimating your five–year and lifetime risk of developing breast cancer. The model assigns you a number, called the Gail score, based on these risk factors:

  • Chronological age and race
  • Age at first menstruation
  • Age at first live birth
  • Number of first–degree relatives (mother, sister, daughter) who develop breast cancer
  • Number of breast biopsies
  • Incidence of atypical hyperplasia (a possible cancer precursor) on biopsy
